Botox Facing Potential Competition

Move over Botox, there may be a new wrinkle smoother in town. After seven years of dominating the anti-aging, wrinkle smoothing injection market, Botox is facing potential competition threatening faster results and a longer life cycle. Doctors and beauty experts are waiting to hear if Reloxin, the French made botulinum toxin, will be approved by the FDA. For those of you that are regulars in the Botox world and would consider the new potential alternative, just make sure to do your research first.

IF Reloxin is approved, an injector’s expertise will matter even more, doctors said. Dr. Seth Matarasso, a dermatologist in San Francisco who lectures about Botox, said he is still shocked that some doctors know little about facial anatomy, dilution procedures and complications. A new botulinum toxin, he said, is “a concern for the neophyte or someone who doesn’t inject a lot.”
