Check out the world’s nearly most expensive pair of shoes
Ladies, we all love our Manolos, Loubouies and Choos, but definitely could do without the hefty price tags. Now, imagine yourself spending an astonishing $230,000 on a single pair of shoes?
You read that price correct. British jewelry designer Christopher Michael Shellis has created a work of gilded art. A set of solid gold and diamond shoes bearing the price tag of £140,000 has been sitting on the shelf of a U.K. retailer for five months, with not a single pair sold.
“The aim of this was to create a unique form of jewelry which you can wear on your feet. It’s a bit like if you found these on an archaeological dig in thousands of years time they would be regarded as a treasure - a treasure of the feet,” Shellis revealed to the Telegraph.
Fashioned by a group of goldsmiths working in extreme temps of more than 1000ºC, the shoes are crafted from solid gold and more than 2,200 diamonds. All told, it represents 30 carats and could be fit for royalty. Royalty with a serious budget, that is.
Aficionados of the shoes – or anyone curious – can see them up close and personal at the Artbox in the Mailbox exhibition in Birmingham, starting Saturday and open to the general public from April 16 to May 2.
We have to wonder, are these beauties being perceived as works of exquisite art, or overindulged footwear?
