Diane von Furstenberg receives medal for making a difference

Diane von Furstenberg is being honored next week with the 2011 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal from the Municipal Art Society of New York, reported UK Vogue. The designer is receiving the award in acknowledgment of her “outstanding contribution to the built environment of New York City.”

She was selected because of her work to redevelop the Meatpacking District and to support the city’s High Line Park, a public space constructed on an elevated decrepit railway track – a project to which she and her husband Barry Dillar donated $10 million.

The distinction will be commemorated through a black tie affair held at the New York Public Library on April 28, reported WWD.
