Eat, Pray, Love Author, Elizabeth Gilbert, Releases a New Book on the Topic of Marriage

For those who have yet to read the inspiring and thought-provoking memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love, we highly recommend it. This New York Times bestseller was an inspiration to women around the globe and it was quite courageous for Gilbert to share herself in such a transparent way with her readers.

Well, now we can all pick up her new hardcover, Committed, that‘s just been released. This new read is a tale of a once married skeptic turned believer in the institution of marriage, though this wasn’t by choice. It seems with the help of the U.S. government she was forced to marry her Brazilian lover, whom we all met at the end of Eat, Pray, Love. This experience then inspired her to approach the topic of marriage in a much deeper introspective way using her genius of storytelling!

‘Committed attempts to “turn on all the lights” when it comes to matrimony, frankly examining questions of compatibility, infatuation, fidelity, family tradition, social expectations, divorce risks and humbling responsibilities. Gilbert’s memoir is ultimately a clear-eyed celebration of love with all the complexity and consequence that real love, in the real world, actually entails.’ –official website

Written with her usual charm and wit, Committed aims to approach this topic with heart-felt passion, and discuss all of her own obstacles she faced in re-visiting the topic. In an interview with CNN.com, she discusses in further detail her findings on marriage from a statistical standpoint. It seems that marriage was seen as being more beneficial to the male than the female time after time. This fact along with many others is outlined in her new book.

This new publication definitely combines Gilbert’s personal story with the research of the historic institution and known custom. Expect it to be both entertaining and educational. It just might be the best of both worlds. It might be time to challenge what ‘marriage’ means to us from a LUX perspective, meaning how do we define what a successful relationship means for us on a personal level.

So LUXies, you can pick up your own copy via Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Powell Books and other local bookstores!

What do you think of this new book topic from Gilbert? Does it peak your interest enough to download it to your Kindle?
