Kotur Brand Launches New Designs for 2010

Known for their evening clutches, Hong-Kong based company Kotur has just announced an expansion of their line that’ll include ‘day’ handbags.

Broadening their niche to include more causal pieces has been on the radar for a while. They’ve tested out two new styles and these styles have already surfaced via the popular hands of actors for both ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Lipstick Jungle.’ This somewhat underground following is exactly what founder Fiona Kotur wants in order to transition these new looks over to the fashionistas of tomorrow.

“We were lucky we found our niche in the evening market, but there has been a demand for [day bags],” said the designer, who was raised in New York and moved to Hong Kong in 2002, after stints in the accessories divisions of Ralph Lauren and Old Navy, and helping her friend Tory Burch set up the infrastructure at her firm.

Expect these LUX-handbag designs to embody a bit of a vintage style. The look has been inspired by Kotur’s own collection of handbags over the last 25 years that have all been custom made. The price range will start around $600 and go as high as $2,000 for the exotic skins.

Currently, the evening bag collection is sold in Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and small boutiques. We might expect the same will be the case for the new collection!

So LUXies, what do you think of Kotur bags? Do you like the idea of expanding their niche to offer new ‘day’ bags?
