LUX Look: Desert booties

Suede booties with crepe soles were all over the streets during Fashion Week in New York and London. Whether in a trendy wedge or a classic lace-up shoe, the desert boot is making a comeback in 2011.

If fashion-forward is your thing, a little height gives desert booties a chic appearance. River Island makes a simple, tan suede boot that could be paired with jeans and a fairlisle sweater for a daytime stroll. If rugged suits you, Asos makes a blue lace-up bootie that will make your great outdoors experience more fashionable than the rest, especially with a 4.7-inch heel.

Marc Jacobs and Kelsi Dagger make pairs that could be dressed up for nighttime. The suede booties by Marc Jacobs are feminine and flirty in a dusty rose and would show off the legs well with stockings and a skirt. Worn with a pair of rolled-up trousers and a V-neck sweater, Kelsi Dagger’s “Fortune” crepe wedge function all day.

Most classic versions of the shoe, such as a pair of desert boots by Clarks, never go out of style. The iconic ankle boot has been a go-to, cool-weather shoe for men and women in Europe for decades. Luckily, the fashion staple for bohemian fashionistas is no longer an import. Madewell and Ape offer classic styles in soft suedes. Madewell even offers funky colors, such as mustard and blue, for a fresh take on the shoe.

If you’re not quite ready for the chunky, crepe heel, J. Crew has the perfect solution. The “MacAlister” wedge boot offers an extra bit of “umph” without worrying about breaking an ankle while walking the city streets.
