LUX Style Files: Killer Instincts

The brilliant sister act driving Rodarte nailed it in this ad for the brand’s Spring/Summer 2009 campaign! Yes, it’s short on color—but I think it delivers on impact and speaks to where we are at as a society. If you really look at the photograph, there is a lot going on: the diamond cut-out leggings, the textures in the dress, the draping of the fabric, the half gloves, and then to top it off, the beautiful masthead with the Rodarte logo in the soft rainbow colors.

I personally think this is a great ad for the here and now and sums up where we’re at emotionally in this snapshot in time. I’ll be honest, last year I would not have the same opinion as I do today—I would have hated it and would have recommended a creative team re-branding. wink
