Radar: Rodarte dresses Dunst movie and other news

What’s in the news for April 6, 2010? Well for starters, Hugo Boss is launching an American e-commerce site. Women’s Wear Daily announced that the German brand will show off the new Web site today. WWD reported, “The U.S. site will be on a new platform with entirely new design, navigation and functionality compared with the e-commerce sites running in Europe, which will eventually also relaunch on the new platform.” The site will feature all their labels from Boss Black to Hugo, as well as new social functions such as web exclusives, photos, and contests for customers.

LadyLUX is a huge fan of Dogeared, the jewelry brand known for their thoughtful charms, so we were totally impressed when we heard they landed a gig in the new Julia Roberts movie. Based off Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir, Sony went to the Los Angeles jewelry brand to partner up for an “Eat, Pray, Love” inspired collection. They’ll create a series of items including jewelry, books and travel-related goods. Fred Segal and ABC Home have already announced that they’ll carry the line, which will range from $20-$100. Dogeared founder, Marcia Maizel Clarke told WWD, “This is a totally natural fit for Dogeared.”

The Daily Front Row reported on Monday that Rodarte outfitted Kristen Dunst’s short film for the Tribeca Film Festival. It isn’t a big surprise the brand’s designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, are dressing the stars of “Bastard” (Dunst’s directorial debut). Just last month they announced that they’ll step into the spotlight and dress the stars of Darren Aronofsky’s “The Swan”. A film staring the sisters’ muse, Natalie Portman. Also, it helps a little that they’re close friends with the “Bring It On” star.

Even though Woody Allen had insinuated to many that Carla Bruni would be the star of his next movie, he announced to the Daily Telegraph that, alas, she wouldn’t be the right fit for the film. He told the British newspaper, “She could be taken away at any moment by other duties. I have to take account of the risks there could be and hiring her is far from certain.” Instead, he chose Marion Cotillard for the lead of the upcoming project. Last year, Bruni seemed giddy about the gig, telling reporters she would love to say she starred in a Woody Allen film. Sadly, the famous director feels it is too high maintenance directing real people and easier to work with actors.
