NYFW Spring 2012: Derek Lam
Derek Lam debuted his 2012 Spring collection at New York Fashion Week with bright and shiny designs full of striking hues, glitz and funky prints, reported Style.com.
The pieces that popped the most were suit separates and dresses in orange and yellow. A collared, knee-length dress with a lace bodice and a belted, three-quarter-sleeved gown in tangerine orange in particular stood out. A leather biker jacket, pencil skirt and deep V-neck gown all in canary yellow also paraded down the runway.

Classic black knee-length dresses were covered with black sequins and multicolored, sparkling embellishments. White dresses were kept clean with eyelet lace, small cut-outs and floor-length hemlines. Simpler than other trends in Lam's line, these black and white ensembles were still knockouts, but with a more sophisticated twist.

A fun section highlighted retro-printed dresses and suits. Extreme retro-printed pencil skirts were paired with simple sweaters and blazers for a more professional version of this trend. Dresses and suits in head-to-toe retro-prints were some of the more vibrant pieces. One model wore a blue, retro-printed brimmed hat that screamed modernity.
The models' androgynous appearance – lackluster make-up, thick brows and hair slicked back into low ponytails – was a noticeable contrast to the collection’s feminine colors and sparkling décor.
Models wore white pumps; cut-out, high-heeled booties; platforms; and open-toed clogs in black and white solid colors and prints. They also sported large, single-handle briefcase purses and messenger shoulder bags in leather, monochromatic colors and the same retro printed designs.
Lam's collection of fun but functional pieces is the epitome of the perfect Spring line.
