Oliberté Footwear Made with African Communities in Mind

We are all familiar with the phrase: ‘Give a man to fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.’ Well, this common reference is exactly what entrepreneur Tal Dehtiar has created with the new footwear line Oliberté.

This new line of shoes was made by enlisting some of the impoverished communities in Africa as part of the production process. By bringing business opportunities to them, Dehtiar was determined to help raise the standard of living in the areas that need it the most!

“It’s not about charity,” said Dehtiar, “but creating jobs and building a middle class.” In addition, he plans to use the company’s production muscle to encourage fair business practices between factories and employees. “We’re going to put pressure on factories to meet certain standards,” said Dehtiar. “It’s about raising the bar for factories and how they treat workers.”

Dehtiar is no stranger to ‘conscious business.’ He also was a part of organizing MBAs Without Borders, a charitable organization that was focused on assisting small global business on a path to profitability and success.

Along with footwear, Dehtiar also tapped local resources to create a line of ‘urban-casuals’ for both women and men to launch this October. This collection will be targeted at fashion boutiques with social consciousness and global awareness at the forefront. Expect retail prices to be between $60-100. As for the shoes, they’re available online at Oliberte.com.

What a powerful idea, right? What are your thoughts LUX Nation? Will this compelling and socially responsible business practice cause you to sway where you put you dollars??
