Radar: 1 Day Left! Berlin Fashion Week

Only one day left of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin. It’s the seventh year in a row that the runway has hit the German capital, and tons of eclectic designers are strutting their designs on the catwalk. Marcel Otertag—known for his monochromatic, spacey outfits—opened the show on June 7. Many other big names in the European fashion scene will be showing until tomorrow’s grand finale. The lineup includes Custo Barcelona, AQ1, Rena Lange, Matrick Mohr and Dimitri. Some designers, such Mavi, are showing their lines for the very first time.

Maia Guarnaccia, Vice President of IMG Fashion-Europe said, “The amount of designers showing for the first time is a great proof of the attention, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin is receiving both on a national and international level.”

Last year, the show got a ton of attention due to their campaign promoting The Designer for Tomorrow by Peek & Coppenburg Düsseldorf Award. They brought it back this year and received over 150 applications, eight were chosen and are now visible on the show’s web site. The candidates include Anna Zwick, Cora Isabel David, Irene Luft, Katja Filipovich, Magdalena Kohler, Magdalena Stark, Parsival Cserer and Thomas Behrens. The winner receives financial support, the opportunity to showcase their designs for a panel of industry professionals next month and their own runway show in January 2011. Check back tomorrow to find out who won!

As pictured above, Milla Jovovich is the face of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Her racy shoot, complete with neon accouterments and fuzzy bunnies, is garnering attention due to a show-stopping accessory….her hat. Made exclusively by Philip Treacy for the shoot, the spiky showgirl topper will be on display all week at the shows.
