Radar: Danny Roberts Collection hits F21
Danny Roberts may be young, but he’s no stranger to success. Starting his first company at 13 years old, the founder of Igor + André sold tees to friends and schoolmates and probably never imagined he’d work with the biggest names in fashion or do interviews with Women’s Wear Daily. Hitting stores today is the 24-year-old artist’s newest collaboration with Forever 21, a family owned company that changed the face of retail by using designer inspiration to create affordable styles for low costs. The Danny Roberts Collection features five of the faces of his Blogger Portrait Series printed on soft white tees with an additional design exclusively for F21. Although he started the paintings almost two years ago, the art caught F21’s eye and thought it’d be perfect to grace their shiny white window displays. His series included hand-drawn portraits of many familiar faces in the web world, from Garance Dore to Bryan Boy, and more high-profile internet superstars such as Perez Hilton. However, the Orange County, Calif.- based artist only chose five from his series to screenprint on the shirts. Which bloggers has he pulled from their dim computer room to the florescent lighting of Forever 21 stores? Carolina Engman of FashionSquad, Geri Hirsch of Because I’m Addicted, Agathe Molvik of Style Bytes, Alice of AlicePoint, and Louise Ebel of Miss Pandora will lend their mugs to the series of shirts.
Danny Roberts seems just as excited as us about the cool collab. He posted on his blog today, “I think one of the most amazing things about the internet is that people from all over the world can collaborate, and inspire each other daily… so amazing! Well, I really hope you like the Collection!”
