Re-release of An Intimate Portrait of Yves Saint Laurent on DVD

““I want to thank all the women who have worn my clothes, the famous and the unknown, who have been so faithful to me and given me so much joy.” – Yves Saint Laurent

LUX-Fashionistas, come November you’ll have the opportunity to catch an insiders glimpse into one of the most influential French fashion couture designers of all time.

In honor of Yves life, documentary maker Jérôme de Missolz, has decided to re-distribute a 48-minute DVD ‘Tout Terriblement,’ made back in 1994 that recounts the highs and lows of Yves journey in fashion. Narrated by the late Saint Laurent himself, it promises to be a classic amongst the Fashion Elite and will undoubtedly have many repeat viewings in its future.

The DVD comes with an endorsement from Saint Laurent himself, according to WWD. “You have, with a rare sensitivity, captured and understood everything I have tried to express for many years,” he wrote to de Missolz when he first saw the film.

What makes this new DVD of Yves Saint Laurant even more LUX is that it will include an archival reel of an interview the late designer had back in 1968 on the ‘Dim Dam Dom’ television show! In this interview Yves address a comment where Coco Chanel reportedly inferred not only was he to be her successor, but that he also copied her designs. Yves gracefully responded by saying:

“First of all, I’m very flattered that Mademoiselle Chanel deigned to take an interest in what I’m doing and that she designated me her successor,” he told “Dim Dam Dom.” “But I am not at all in agreement when she says I copy her.” If he copied her, Saint Laurent declared, he wouldn’t be successful: “I think also the big difference between me and Mademoiselle Chanel is that I try to bring women a style that allows them to adapt their style to my dresses and allows them to develop their personalities. While a woman who wears Chanel resembles Mademoiselle Chanel.” —via WWD.com.

As you can see, there is much to be learned by studying those that helped to create the fashion traditions that we have become accustomed. It is Yves Saint Laurent who had a hand in making ‘Haute Couture’ and ‘Ready-to-Wear’ attire a reputable standard, and is most definitely considered to be one of the most influential designers of the 20th century.
