Susan G. Komen launches fragrance to raise funds
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, which has invested more than $1.5 billion in breast cancer research, now has a new, fashion-forward way to raise funds: perfume.
Promise Me—which includes notes of mandarin, bergamot, blood orange, wild orchid, rosewood, white patchouli and musk—will be distributed as an eau de toilette and an eau de parfum in department stores, drug stores and home shopping networks starting this April.
The fragrance receives its name from the founder, Nancy Brinker, who wrote a book of the same name. In “Promise Me,” she discusses the commitment she has made to breast cancer after her sister passed away from the disease.
“My sister was always passionate about fragrance,” Brinker said to WWD. “She had a great fashion sense.”
Brinker noted that it should be a successful fundraising tool for the organization. They expect to raise upward of $1 million a year from the fragrance.
At certain department stores, a copy of Brinker’s book will be available with purchase.
Susan G. Komen said the product will remain on shelves through October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
