The Real World - Valentino Style
Last week, the man rumored to lead the grandest lifestyle in all of Europe exposed every bit of it and himself to the world. “Valentino: The Last Empire” is a 90 minute documentary crafted from two years of footage captured while following on the heels of the design mogul and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti. Director Matt Tyrnauer and team lived, ate and breathed Valentino for the final years before his retirement in order to present to the world a greater depth of the man behind the dress.
Valentino is a warts-and-all portrait that digs deep into one of the industry’s greatest partnerships—at times to the subjects’ discomfort. “Valentino’s press is miles wide but only very shallow in depth,” explains Tyrnauer. “He had never talked about his relationship with Giancarlo Giammetti in great depth and he had never given a kind of insiderly look at how he did it. And this is someone that started with nothing and built a global fashion empire.”
